The new AMD Zambezi, DDR3 1866, AM3+ will be called AMD FX and it was supposed to originally launch in late Q3 2011 or September. Things got moved back by a bit and now the date to watch out for is October 12, 6 PM Central European time. If you are based in the UK or Portugal the announcement comes at 5.00 PM

AMD should launch three different versions of the CPU, an eight core FX 8xx0, six core FX 6100 and four core FX 4100 branded CPUs.

FX 8000 generation’s fastest AMD FX 8150 is an octa-core clocked at 3.6GHz, with maximal clock set to 4.2GHz and it has 16MB cache. The runner up is AMD FX 8120, a 3.1GHz CPU with eight cores and 4.0GHz turbo clocks. AMD FX 8100 is an 2.8GHz octa-core with a maximal clock of 3.7GHz and 16MB cache.

The AMD FX 6100 is a six-core 3.3GHz CPU with a turbo clock of 3.9GHz and 14MB cache. There will also be a faster version called AMD FX 6120 that has the same 95W TDP but comes a bit later in Q1 2012.

AMD FX 4170 is a quad-core clocked at 4.2GHz and top clock of 4.3GHz and 12MB cache. It has a 125W TDP, the same as the top two eight core parts. AMD FX 4120 comes in Q1 2012 and we don’t know the clock yet, but AMD FX4100 should be there at launch and works at 3.6GHz, has 12MB of cache and maximal clock of 3.8GHz. It is also a 95W part.
